The lime deposits are dissolved by the acidic components in the descaler. The intensity of this reaction can be seen from the strength of the air bubble formation.
The effectiveness of a descaling agent largely depends on the acidic component. An ideal descaler guarantees fast and complete descaling with maximum protection of the materials if dosed sufficiently.
During the development of the product, special emphasis was placed on fast and safe descaling with high descaling performance. This was initially very difficult to achieve due to the strict requirements. But the set goal has been achieved. The result is a product that can compete in absolute terms with other descaling agents and also meets all required environmental aspects.
Tip: Pour the used descaling solution or the remaining contents of the bottle into the toilet bowl and let it work until the next use. This has the following advantages: any residual acid can remove limescale and urine deposits in the toilet just as effectively. The empty product bottles should be thrown away with the household waste, although all durgolf bottles are made from PET in the same way as standard drinks bottles.Manufacturers of all products sold in PET packaging, but not intended for drinking, are not allowed to become members of PET Recycling Switzerland. This means that dedurgol bottles - even after careful rinsing - are sorted before the recycling process.
Limescale buildup in the machine leads to longer brewing times and poorer heat transfer, often resulting in reduced water dispensing, which together result in lower coffee quality.
Limescale deposits build up in the machine over time and can eventually clog it. Limescale also promotes the corrosion of the materials in your coffee machine. Both can damage the machine.
Limescale buildup leads to higher energy consumption in your coffee machine and is therefore harmful to the environment.
We recommend regular and early descaling, ideally every 3 months, for optimal coffee quality and a long lifespan of your machine.
Lime is important for us humans... In principle, lime is not bad. For us humans, it is even healthy: Calcium helps, among other things, in the building of bones. That is why hard water is good for the human body. But unfortunately, lime is harmful in the household...
Hard water leaves behind unsightly lime deposits when it evaporates or is heated. Lime deposits on appliances lead to poorer heat transfer and thus to higher energy consumption.
Lime deposits promote the growth of microorganisms such as bacteria. Lime deposits can impair the functioning of appliances such as kettles and coffee makers and shorten their lifespan.
Limescale deposits can negatively affect the operation of household appliances (e.g. kettles and coffee makers) and their lifespan. Limescale deposits in coffee machines can clog the pipes and thus significantly shorten the lifespan of the machine. The lifespan of kettles can also be shortened, for example due to overheating and damage to the electronics. durgol helps to break down limescale deposits efficiently and gently.
To descale the appliance safely, household products such as citric acid or vinegar should be avoided as a descaling agent, as they are less efficient and usually cannot remove limescale deposits completely. Products containing citric acid can form insoluble deposits, which sooner or later lead to problems with the descaled appliances. Products containing acetic acid also dissolve silicone/rubbers, such as gaskets, making them brittle and potentially causing a leak. And not unimportant, they both also leave an unpleasant taste.
What is limescale?
When tap water is heated, limescale deposits form in appliances such as espresso machines, kettles, and washing machines.
Example
: Limescale buildup in an espresso machine will negatively affect the quality of the coffee and the lifespan of your machine.
Cause and effect
: • Limescale buildup prolongs the brewing time.
• As a result, the machine dispenses less water.
• Consequently, the temperature continues to decrease.
• The consequence of this is lower coffee quality.
• Over time, the layer of limescale in the machine becomes thicker and causes blockages.
• Limescale buildup leads to increased energy consumption.
SolutionOplossing
: To ensure optimal espresso quality and a long lifespan for your
machine, it is important to descale your machine regularly and on time.
Simple practical example:
Traditionally, with filter coffee machines, people have tried to solve the problem by putting slightly less water or slightly more coffee in the filter (a scoop with a small mound of coffee). However, the cause is almost certainly limescale, and the solution in this case is Durgol Universal.
Durgol is safe and odorless.
Durgol is odorless and leaves no unpleasant taste in your kettle or coffee machine, ensuring the coffee flavor remains optimal in the machine.
How does limescale end up in tap water?
Hard , calcareous water is formed when rainwater seeps through calcareous rock layers and becomes enriched with calcium carbonate. This hard water reaches households as tap water. When tap water is heated or evaporates, limescale deposits form.
You can obtain reliable information about water hardness in your town or region from your water supplier. Depending on your region, you have one of the following water suppliers: Brabantwater, Dunea, Evides, Oasen, PWN, Vitens, Waterbedrijf Groningen, Waternet, WMD Drenthe, or WML Limburg. You can often deduce which supplier you currently have from the name.
Water Hardness dH
German hardness (dH) indicates the hardness of water and indicates the concentration of metal ions in the water—mostly magnesium and calcium carbonate, but also bicarbonates and sulfates. Most drinking water contains calcium, which precipitates as calcium carbonate when heated. This is known as limescale, limescale, or boiler scale.
Water with high hardness causes significant limescale buildup, thereby damaging heating elements, but also hindering the effectiveness of detergents. The latter is reflected in the dosages for dishwashers or washing machines.
Drinking Water Decree
The quality requirements for drinking water are set out in the Drinking Water Decree. For water supply systems and pipe networks, requirements apply regarding hardness and the availability of a monitoring program, among other things. No specific requirements are set for drinking water treatment in residential installations.
Water that is too soft corrodes copper pipes.
The National Drinking Water Decree only stipulates regarding hardness that water companies may not soften or desalinate drinking water beyond 5.6 dH. The upper limit is often set at 12.5 dH. The average hardness for Dutch drinking water is around 8 German degrees. This is prescribed because water that is too soft corrodes copper pipes.
What is hard water?
Water hardness is measured by the amount of calcium and magnesium. The more calcium and magnesium, the harder the water. The boundary between hard and soft water is difficult to define. The concepts are relative, and there is no official hardness scale in the Netherlands.
•0-4 dH
• 4-8 dH
• 8-12 dH
• 12-18 dH
• 18-30 dH

The hardness of water in the Netherlands varies per municipality, or even per place of residence.Because tap water is reprocessed from as many as 200 different sources, there are differences in Dutch water hardness.Water on the Veluwe can be called soft, while Houten in Utrecht has very hard water. Check the hardness of your tap water.
Limescale forms from 2.7 dH.
You therefore need more washing powder and other cleaning products, your central heating system uses an unnecessary amount of energy and your bathroom and kitchen need extra maintenance to remain streak-free.Your skin feels drier due to hard water.

For example, our municipality:
Bemmel (Gld)
Your province: Gelderland
Your water hardness: 7.1 dH
Your water is hard.
Scale is limestone and its formation.
Scale is limestone (CaCO3) that forms during the heating or boiling of water. Especially in hard water, which contains many calcium and magnesium ions, a lot of scale is formed during heating. The scale impairs the proper functioning of the heating appliance and is also harmful to any heating element present. Scale owes its name to the boilers of steam engines and heating equipment, in which it deposits on the walls as "stone".
Hard water contains a lot of lime in the form of the reasonably soluble calcium bicarbonate, Ca(HCO3)2, resulting in the presence of calcium (Ca2+) and bicarbonate (HCO3) ions in the water.
Upon heating, carbon dioxide escapes and solid calcium carbonate is formed (and also magnesium carbonate as a result of the magnesium ions present):
Ca2+(aq) + 2 HCO3-(aq) CaCO3(s) + H2O(l) + CO2(aq)
The calcium carbonate (plus magnesium carbonate) is heat-insulating and is therefore poor for heat transfer in, for example, a heating element.
The above reaction is in fact a combination of two equilibrium reactions.
Hard tap water takes a toll on your home, skin, and wallet, but also on the environment. It leads to unnecessary use of aggressive cleaning agents, soaps, and energy, unnecessary strain on appliances and sanitary fixtures, and unfortunately; even more...
Hard water causes clogged water pipes
. Limescale adheres to the inside of water pipes. This buildup causes a significantly reduced flow rate.
The kitchen and bathroom calcify.
Here, you quickly see the consequences of hard water: a white-yellow deposit on sanitary fixtures and shower walls, dull taps, and streaks. Even consistently drying out wet areas, such as the shower, cannot prevent this.
Thermostatic taps become clogged or even break down
. Taps cannot withstand limescale. The temperature control is affected even more than the visible parts. They become clogged, or they break.
There is a greater risk of corrosion and rust, especially with porous limescale deposits. Corrosion and rust go hand in hand with limescale. As a result, leaks can occur over time.
Appliances break down or show leaks. Coffee and espresso machines, dishwashers, and washing machines do not last as long with hard water. A combi steamer is very sensitive to limescale.
• Limescale buildup in your espresso machine can negatively affect the quality of the espresso and the lifespan of your machine.
• This limescale prolongs brewing time and causes poorer heat transfer, resulting in lower espresso quality.
• Over time, the layer of limescale in the machine becomes thicker and can cause blockages and constrictions. Furthermore, limescale damages your espresso machine and also causes corrosion. This can lead to damage to the machine.
• Limescale buildup leads to increased energy consumption by your espresso machine, which is harmful to the environment.
• To maintain the optimal quality of your espresso and ensure the lifespan of your machine, it is important to descale your machine in a timely manner.
The lime deposits are dissolved by the acid component in the descaler. The intensity of the reaction can be read from the extent to which bubbles develop.
The effectiveness of a descaler largely depends on the acid component. An ideal descaler ensures fast and sufficient descaling when used in the correct dosage and at the same time guarantees maximum protection of the material used in the machine.
When descaling with a citric acid-based descaler, sediment may form that can clog the fine pipes and valves in your espresso machine. Furthermore, the citric acid can form an insoluble layer that effectively seals the limescale. In addition, descaling with citric acid takes at least 10 times longer than with durgol® swiss espresso®.
Vinegar or vinegar essence causes an unpleasant odor during descaling due to the acetic acid and flavorings present. Moreover, the plastic material in your espresso machine can eventually take on this taste, affecting the aroma of the espresso.
Some plastics can be damaged by the acetic acid. As with citric acid, descaling with vinegar is much slower (>10x) than with durgol® swiss espresso®.
Durgol Swiss Espresso has been specially developed for descaling espresso machines (=closed systems). Durgol Swiss Espresso is highly effective against limescale but does not damage the machine.
Compared to Durgol Universal, Durgol Swiss Espresso produces little to no foam or fizz. Because Swiss Espresso does not foam or fizz, no pressure builds up on the fine pipes of the device. This is in contrast to other descaling products! Since there is no foam formation, the liquid can easily come into contact with the limescale present.
Thanks to effective corrosion protection, Durgol Swiss Espresso does not damage the material of the espresso machine when applied correctly. No sediment forms during descaling that could clog the machine.
Durgol Swiss Espresso is highly effective against limescale and works up to 10 times faster than other descalers. One bottle (125ml) of Durgol Swiss Espresso dissolves a maximum of 10 grams of limescale. This is sufficient to fully descale an espresso machine once.
• Durgol Swiss Espresso generally requires no additional waiting time, meaning the entire descaling process is significantly faster.
• Thanks to the rapid descaling process with durgol swiss espresso, the descaling procedure is quick and simple. durgol swiss espresso is ready to use. Unlike descalers in powder or tablet form, durgol swiss espresso does not need to be dissolved in water. No additives need to be added to the liquid durgol swiss espresso, as is the case with descaling tablets that leave residue in the machine and can clog it.
• One bottle (125ml) of durgol swiss espresso is sufficient for one complete descaling. Ordinary descalers are often underdosed and therefore do not descale the machine optimally. durgol swiss espresso is food-safe.
• durgol swiss espresso leaves no chemical residue in the machine after descaling and rinsing.
• durgol swiss espresso is odorless and tasteless.
Salts are formed through the reaction of the acid with the lime, whereby the acid is neutralized. Any excess durgol swiss espresso contributes to the neutralization of the usually excessively present alkalis (originating from detergents) in the sewage water.
durgol swiss espresso does not result in the fertilization of the water system.
•
• Thanks to its strong lime-dissolving capacity, durgol swiss espresso is economical to use and therefore environmentally friendly.
Overdosing is impossible due to the portioned packaging.
• The bottle of durgol swiss espresso is made of PET, is recyclable, and therefore not harmful to the environment.
Descale your espresso machine regularly and early! Depending on the machine type, you can determine the descaling time as follows:
• Machines with a warning light: Set the machine to the water hardness level according to the manufacturer's instructions. This can be obtained from the water utility or determined using a special test strip. As soon as the warning light illuminates, the machine must be descaled.
• Machines without a warning light: Descale the machine as soon as it starts to function more slowly or irregularly, or when the quality of the foam layer ("crema") deteriorates.
We recommend descaling regularly and on time, ideally every 3 months. For descaling and rinsing, first and foremost follow the instructions for your coffee machine.
Complete descaling of your household machine is only guaranteed by using an entire dosing bottle of Durgol Swiss Espresso (125ml) per descaling operation.
Espresso machines for professional use with a water tank of more than 1.5 liters may require two bottles of Durgol Swiss Espresso per descaling operation.
Durgol Swiss Espresso is a special descaler for espresso machines, the product safety of which has been proven numerous times. If used correctly, damage to the material can be ruled out with great certainty.
Please note that we accept no liability for damage caused by failure to adhere to these instructions for use.

Durgol Universal is environmentally friendly because the reaction between the acid and the lime and salts present in it forms, thereby neutralizing the acid. Furthermore, spent acid residues in the wastewater contribute to neutralizing the wastewater.
Thanks to its above-average lime-dissolving capacity, Durgol Universal is also very economical to use. It can be applied in measured doses, making it environmentally friendly as well.
The Durgol Universal bottle is made of PET and is therefore environmentally friendly and recyclable.
Always apply durgol universal cold when using it on metal (exception: coffee machines). Do not use in combination with other cleaning products. Ensure that durgol universal does not come into contact with acid-sensitive materials such as marble, calcareous stone types, some types of chrome steel, thin/defective chrome plating, enamel, and silver, as these may be affected. When disposing of the used descaling solution, rinse thoroughly with cold water.
• Keep out of reach of children. Do not swallow.
• In case of contact with eyes or skin, rinse immediately and thoroughly with plenty of water.

durgol kitchen cleaner is biodegradable (according to OECD 302B). Protecting the environment is a priority for us, which is why our eco-friendly bottle is made from PET. Replacement bottles are available to allow customers to reuse their spray head.
Is it the ability to remove limescale and grease? Previously, this was impossible in the same process, because lime is dissolved by acids and fat by alkaline solutions. But durgol kitchen cleaner can clean both at the same time. Thanks to an innovative combination of surfactants that are highly effective even in acidic environments, the powerful cleaning foam can remove limescale and grease at the same time.
• Tip: Pour used descaling solution or a residual product into your toilet bowl and leave it there until you use the toilet again. This has the following advantage: acid residues can dissolve limescale and urine sediment in the toilet.
• All empty product bottles must be disposed of with household waste, even though all Durgol bottles look like conventional PET beverage bottles. Unfortunately, manufacturers of products sold in PET containers that are not intended for consumption are not eligible for membership in PET Recycling Switzerland. This means that Durgol bottles must be sorted before the recycling process, even if they have been thoroughly rinsed.

Milk residue can promote the growth of harmful bacteria. Coffee quality/taste is negatively affected if the milk comes from a contaminated milk system. The lifespan and performance of the milk system, and thus the coffee machine, are extended or improved.
We recommend cleaning regularly and early, ideally every 2 weeks, for optimal quality of your latte specialties and a long lifespan of your machine. We recommend the Durgol milk system cleaner for this purpose. This keeps the entire milk system hygienic and clean.
The special descaler Durgol Swiss Espresso has been specially developed for optimal limescale removal in a coffee machine. The milk system cleaner, on the other hand, is not intended for descaling, but for hygienically cleaning the milk-carrying parts. These are two completely different applications.
durgol milk system cleaner is easily biodegradable (according to OECD302B). Protecting the environment is important for durgol.
Limescale is formed when the water is heated, it deposits on the heating element, in the drum, on rubber seals and in the pipes of the washing machine. It can affect the operation of the washing machine and increase energy consumption. Limescale deposits are also a welcome breeding ground for bacteria. This can also cause unpleasant odors. In addition, liquid detergents in particular have a tendency to stick to the edges and grooves of the washing machine. These deposited soap residues can also become a hygiene problem.
