Moccamaster handmade since 1964 & durgol, Swiss quality since 1951. For many years, Technivorm - Moccamaster has recommended using the product durgol universal for descaling their coffee machines. Two specialists, each in their own field, work together and strengthen each other.
A recognizable example
Traditionally, people have wanted to solve the problem with filter coffee machines by bargaining with the amount of coffee or water. Simply by using a little less water or a little more coffee in the filter (scoop with coffee bump). But in most cases the cause is lime. The solution is simple, use durgol universal.
The correct lead time is also important. For a full jug of 10 cups, the correct processing time is 6 minutes. The acids are released at the beginning, the bitter substances at the end. If the extraction time is too short, the coffee will taste sour; If the brewing process takes too long, the coffee will taste too bitter. A new Moccamaster brews a full 1.25 liter jug of coffee in exactly 6 minutes. This is the correct lead time. A lower water temperature and a longer brewing time change the taste of your coffee.
If the coffee tastes bitter, the water temperature is too high. If the coffee tastes sour, the water is too cold. The optimal brewing temperature is between 92 and 96°C. At this temperature the aroma-containing oils dissolve well, with an ideal balance between sweet, sour and bitter. Moccamaster's unique copper heating element ensures this ideal brewing temperature.
A longer lifespan is also a sustainable choice. Moccamaster coffee machines are produced in the Netherlands and undergo strict quality control. Moccamaster wants to protect the environment as much as possible and only uses high-quality, energy-efficient and recyclable materials. All durgol products have their specific application and contain product properties and special additives (safe substances) that protect your device or machine.
To descale your filter machine safely, Moccamaster recommends not using citric acid or vinegar. Cleaning vinegar also dissolves fats! Rubbers, gaskets and silicone seams consist of grease. If we dissolve these greases, leaks will occur in your machine. Products containing citric acid can cause insoluble deposits, which sooner or later lead to problems. Both citric acid and cleaning vinegar leave an unpleasant odor.
To maintain functionality and taste, filter coffee machines (even when using soft water) must be descaled regularly.
Moccamaster recommends descaling once a month or at the latest after making coffee 100 times. Otherwise, deposits and residues will not only affect the taste of the coffee, but also increase electricity costs as the lead time increases. Limescale can also cause the machine to break down more quickly. With the right product, the filter coffee machine is easy to descale. Durgol universal offers effortless, efficient and at the same time gentle cleaning, while products containing vinegar usually leave an unpleasant taste and odor. Moccamaster has been working with Durgol for a long time to extend the lifespan of Moccamaster filter coffee machines.
